Paul Fletcher
Bernard Wolfe Professor of Health Neuroscience, University of Cambridge Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, Wellcome Trust Investigator
Paul trained in medicine before taking a PhD in cognitive neuroscience. He is the Bernard Wolfe Professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge and a Wellcome Trust Investigator. Paul’s clinical work is on Huntington’s Disease and psychosis. He is very interested in how the mind can create a world in the setting of some mental illnesses and this has led him to a deeper consideration of perception and belief and a growing conviction that, even under normal circumstances, much of what we experience as objective reality has actually been processed, shaped and even fabricated by the mind.
Paul has been elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He was also on the BAFTA-winning development team for the video game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. He continues to work with the video game company, Ninja Theory, exploring ways in which video games may help us to understand, represent and ultimately manage mental distress.
