Two time BAFTA winner Michaela Coel is best known for her smash hit E4 / Netflix series Chewing Gum. She has since been seen in Black Mirror: Nosedive (Netflix), London Spy (BBC), The Aliens (E4) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She can be seen leading independent British film Been So Long, and was most recently seen in the leading role of Hugo Blick’s critically acclaimed new series Black Earth Rising for BBC and Netflix.
Michaela is currently writing, directing and starring in January 22nd, an upcoming drama for BBC2 exploring the question of sexual consent in contemporary life and how, in the new landscape of dating and relationships, people make the distinction between liberation and exploitation.
Michaela gave the highly prestigious MacTaggart Lecture at the Edinburgh International Television Festival in August 2018 – the first non-white person and the fifth woman to do so.
