MTV Shuga “Down South”

Award-winning TV series that blends HIV and sexual health messaging with entertaining stories. This event was recorded at the OKRE Summit in June 2022.

Thishiwe Ziqubu is the Director of MTV Shuga “Down South”, part of an award-winning TV drama series that was first broadcast in 2017 alongside a multi-media campaign.

It was part of MTV Staying Alive Ignite Foundation’s whose mission was to “equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and resources to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health and avert HIV”.

Part of MTV Shuga series, an award-winning TV drama that blends HIV and sexual health messaging with entertaining stories to which young people can relate. There have been 9 seasons of MTV Shuga, produced in Kenya, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and South Africa – the later being called MTV Shuga Down South.
