OKRE’s Experimental Stories: Climate and Health workshops

Experimental Stories ultimate goal is to inspire writers and producers to commission and broadcast drama that is inspired by science.

Working primarily with BBC Radio 4, the workshops bring together scientists, researchers, audio producers and writers to create drama inspired by science. The workshop series has been running since 2012, resulting in a diverse range of award-winning Radio 4 drama (see Experimental Stories commissions list).

The workshop fuses science and research with audio drama, fostering new relationships, generating new energy and developing some great original drama pitches for BBC Radio 4.

Experimental Stories has specific themes to guide the work. In the past, themes have included consciousness, antibiotics and data. The theme for 2023 is climate change and health, from a range of perspectives including mental health, food, cities, the impact of flooding and heatwaves on society and infectious diseases.
